Cardo Scala Rider Freecom 4: Full review

The Scala Rider Freecom 4 is one of the “mid-range” devices from the Cardo house. It lies, in fact, in the middle (both in terms of features and price) between the cheaper Freecom 1 and Freecom 2, and its bigger brothers SmartPack and PackTalk.

    Why choose Cardo Freecom 4

The Cardo Scala Rider Freecom 4 intercom is the first device from Cardo to allow communication between riders riding different bikes (up to 4 users).

Unlike Freecom 1 and 2 (designed specifically for solo riders), Scala Rider Freecom 4 allows communications between rider and passenger and between bikes.

    Its main features are:

    • has two Bluetooth channels
    • universal

    • the radio
    • allows you to listen to other devices along with your passenger
    • can connect with the satnav and smartphone

The Freecom 4 (as well as all Cardo devices) is waterproof and dustproof (it has IP67 certification), a key feature if you are a biker who is not afraid to travel in the rain. We like the design, which is very sleek.

You can install it on any helmet: whether jet, full-face, or modular.

What you will find in the box

Inside the box of the Scala Rider Freecom 4 you will find:

    • Interphone Scala Rider Freecom 4
    • A hybrid microphone
    • Jet helmet microphone
    • Microphone for full-face helmets
    • Mounting accessories
    • Sled
    • Adhesive
    • Battery charger

Freecom 4 is specially designed for bike-to-bike communication and has a range of up to 1.2km.

Freecom 4 has outstanding audio quality, thanks to HD stereo earbuds, and is equipped with AGC technology (a feature that allows automatic volume adjustment depending on external noise).

However, as with any intercom, it is worth remembering that it will affect your helmet’s type and level of soundproofing quite a bit. Up to 120km/h, the audio quality of the intercom is excellent.

It is equipped with “parallel audio + talk/navigation” function: so you can listen to both navigation and music simultaneously.

    Battery life

The Freecom 4‘s battery life has been increased to 13 hours in intercom mode (basically about a full day of travel).

    To whom it is addressed

Given its characteristics, Cardo Scala Rider Freecom 4 is designed specifically for those who want to communicate with riders on other bikes without spending

    too much.

The price is in line with the quality and reliability of Cardo’s in-house intercom.

It is slightly “wasted” for urban use because it offers features also ideal for long trips with 4 motorcyclists.
